You probably thought losing your hair was the worst thing you have to endure. Right now, that may be true. However, deep inside your body the same problem making your hair fall out is probably shortening your lifespan.

DHT, the hormone causing your hair loss, is a concentrated form of Testosterone. When your body makes too much testosterone, you make too much DHT. While your hair is most sensitive to the effects of testosterone, the rest of your body suffers as well.

A 2007 study performed by the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine revealed the true implications of losing your hair. Men who seemed healthy but were losing their hair had significantly higher levels of testosterone throughout their bodies. Those same men had a 14% increase of mortality over men without elevated testosterone.

Some of the men studied died from the heart problems and hormonal cancers one would naturally associate with high testosterone. However, many died from other health problems which were rooted in a general lack of health. This study only examined middle-aged men over a relatively short span of time. One can only imagine how much more dangerous the situation will become as these men get older and the testosterone goes unchecked.

The study concluded that elevated testosterone has a corrosive effect throughout the body. It weakens your whole body in ways you could never detect or see when you look in a mirror. Essentially, as your hair follicles are deteriorating so is your health.

You can use every OTC product out there in an attempt to control DHT on your scalp and save your hair. However, you are not going to be able to control the extra testosterone creating the DHT or wrecking havoc on your body with an OTC product. A whole body solution is the only way to truly save your body and your life.

The best whole body solution can be found in some books The Hair Loss Black Book. These solution focuses on stopping hair loss by restoring your testosterone, and subsequently DHT, to normal, healthy levels. It will also teach you to counteract DHT by increasing your body's natural anti-DHT / anti-testosterone enzymes. Meanwhile, these books will show you nurturing techniques to heal your hair follicles and re-grow hair.

Your hair may be the most visible sign of a problem. However, the real problem is much deeper. The good news is you can look and feel good once again. If you are following a whole body solution, you can be assured that your work to stop hair loss and restore growth will also stop the deeper damage.

A lot of hair loss sufferers become more worried about how the dilemma affects their daily life than exactly why the situation happened. It's very simple to comprehend. After all, your self perception influences most aspects of your life socially and professionally and now we live in an image-driven society.

We have a natural tendency to become protective and to overreact to anything that threatens our appearance. Premature loss of hair can be an obvious and severe threat to how we perceive ourselves. It leads to such insecurity some people might think they have got no option other than to overcompensate for the problem. Regrettably, they may be sliding into a trap and helping to make the situation even more serious.

In the late nineties, a scientist followed the lives of over 4300 men displaying symptoms of hair loss. The purpose of the study was to look at aspects of their way of living which might be triggering or increasing the loss of hair. The final results were very worthwhile.

In comparison to adult men having a full head of hair, the men in the study group were 32% more likely to consume over five alcoholic drinks daily. They were 151% more likely to smoke compared to males with healthy hair. In general, these males were 72% more likely to indulge in dangerous behaviors like driving a motor vehicle aggressively as well as taking physical risks.

Far more intriguing were the actual indicators of overall health in these men. These people were 25% more likely to suffer a significant injury. Even worse, they were 76% more prone to experience a cardiac arrest.

Take into account for a minute the factors which cause hair thinning. Loss of hair is a direct consequence of a hormone discrepancy making too much testosterone and too much of the testosterone by-product, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Something that boosts testosterone will increase hair loss.

Bodily chemical imbalances happen naturally, but how we look after our body be capable of turning a minor imbalance straight into a significant problem. Cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption prevent the normal manufacture of enzymes which balance and counteract testosterone. Even worse, risky and aggressive behavioral patterns force the brain to signal the generation of more testosterone.

All of these males were affected by an excessive amount of testosterone, nevertheless lived lifestyles that produced even more testosterone. Some of the males confessed that they used aggressive behavior to feel more masculine and attractive. Others acknowledged it as a self-punishment due to their unsatisfactory appearance. In every scenario, the man's overcompensation with regard to premature hair loss produced an atmosphere for bigger hair loss.

Rather than overcompensating for the condition, why not make an effort to solve it? Why not find a method to reduce testosterone and create a hormone balance in the body? If that sounds like a more rewarding alternative when compared with attempting to make you feel better mentally, it's time to pick up a copy of The Hair Loss Black Book.

The Hair Loss Black Book can be described as a comprehensive program that shows you how to avoid premature hair loss by eliminating the foundation of the problem, DHT. It teaches you a health and fitness program customized for your physical structure. You will see the best way to acquire your preferred body form, transforming into a picture of health that is DHT free. By the end of the program, you will have learned the way to prevent hair loss and re-grow your hair. More importantly, when you reach your perfect form and also have a thicker head of hair, your self image will never be an issue again.

Hair loss is one of those things that can affect both men and women. Right now millions of people are losing their hair, some at a very early age at that. What can you do if you want to finally get a grip on hair loss? Well the media certainly pumps up hair transplants and other expensive hair loss treatments.

They will have you believing that these are your only hope if you ever want to see your hair back. Don't be fooled by high price tags and sales pitches. One surefire way to really make your hair grow back is through the use of various hair loss remedies.

There are three in my book that have personally helped me overcome baldness with ease. You can copy these four ingredients and use them in a unique way to boost hair growth fast.

Eggs

Eggs make for an excellent hair-growing remedy. What you can do to fight hair loss naturally is mix honey with egg yolk and massage this in your scalp where your hair is thinning. Be sure to leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing out with shampoo.

Black Pepper & Lime Seeds

Black pepper along with lime seeds is one heck of a remedy. What you do is mix the two in equal quantities into a cup of water. Just add the mixture to your scalp on a regular basis and this will help you maintain and grow a nice head of hair.

Mustard Oil

Grab yourself a cup of mustard oil and add five henna leaves to it. Boil this in a pot for five to ten minutes then drain the leaves from the mixture. You can store this in a bottle and use it daily or weekly as a natural topical treatment for thin hair.

Some people totally overlook what natural home remedies can do for the growth of their hair. Are you still missing out?

Herbal Hair Solution - A Natural Hair Loss Remedy That Could Help Regrow Hair?

Yes, I am balding too and have been looking intensively for a cure or natural hair loss remedy that could help me regrow hair. Or at least, help my hair regrow back to where it was 5 years ago, which was not as bad as it looks now. You might have noticed that hair loss in men, so called male-pattern baldness is a common problem seen today. Balding men have probably been around for quite some time but environmental factors such as pollutants are adding to increasing numbers of people who suffer from this terrible state of being. Male hair loss or so called male pattern baldness is hereditary, but hair loss can also be caused by a hormonal imbalance of the male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens.

Honestly, who cares as long as my hair can finally start regrowing again!
Of course I would like to use a natural hair loss remedy that would not have many terrible side-effects as can be seen in prescription hair loss drugs. I also do not want to spend a lot of money on some expensive prescription or non-prescription hair loss drugs that are advertised extensively today. Before I found the Herbal Hair Solution treatment as a safe and inexpensive way to treat my hair loss I looked around for some other products in the hair loss market.

Some of the hair loss prevention products (that by no means are natural hair loss remedies on the market today) are Propecia, Rogaine (Monoxadil), Avacor and Proxiphen. However, taking prescription or non-prescription hair loss prevention products , such as Propecia, Rogaine (Monoxadil), Avacor and Proxiphen are for me just adding more problems as possible side-effects are usually part of the big problem. The high price of these products are also a major turn off point. These medicines usually take about six months before one could tell they are working. After all, there seems to be some truth that hair loss prevention drug companies want to make big money in the hair loss industry and on balding people like us.
So why not rather look for a natural hair loss remedy that would have less or no side-effects and does not cost much either? Does such a product exist ?

On the other hand, of course I could accept the way I look, a balding man...give up the hope that my wonderful black hair will ever grow back or at least show signs of recovery and forget finding a natural hair loss remedy. There seem to be quite a few charismatic or famous people out there that suffer from male pattern baldness - but charisma or fame is not something I really have right now.

So, I looked for a natural hair loss remedy that might look promising and I found the Herbal Hair Solution.

The Herbal Hair Solution is a secret natural herbal hair remedy. This natural hair loss remedy consists of a secret Indian recipe that can cure male pattern baldness and has established a good reputation already among many balding men. Besides the great benefits of the Herbal Hair Solution by stopping baldness and regrowing your hair, this natural hair loss remedy offers a herbal hair solution against dry scalp and dandruff as well.

Overall, I found the Herbal Hair Solution to be a very useful natural and safe herbal hair remedy. It consists of a complete guide book for regrowing your hair naturally. The Herbal Hair Solution basically told me how to make a natural hair loss prevention product by myself; using most of the ingredients from my garden (it is not difficult). I used the Herbal Hair Solution as a home remedy against dandruff and dry scalp as well - yes I am a poor balding man.
With Herbal Hair Solution there seems to be a promising inexpensive alternative to regrow your hair naturally and without using chemicals. I found the Herbal Hair Solution to be a true natural hair loss remedy that helps me with my baldness in a safe, natural and easy way.

Hair loss can severely cause lack of confidence and self-esteem, and even depression in some cases. With every lost strand, a person looses a bit of confidence. However, now there are many cosmetic surgeries like hair transplants and graphics and cosmetic treatments like flashpoints extensions and keratins, etc. But still natural and herbal treatments rule the chart.

Natural and herbal treatments are soon gaining preference amongst people trying to curb, reduce or prevent loss of hair. These treatments are easily available, can be done by you at home, are inexpensive and have no side effects. Natural treatments like daily scalp massages, with various hair nutritious oils and other hair foods, followed by a steam treatment can work wonders for one's hair.

Nutritious Hair Foods:

A proper and daily scalp and hair massage improves the quality and health of your hair, strengthens the hair roots and conditions the scalp. It increases the blood circulation to the hair follicles, thus, improving the supply of nutrients to the hair that can make your hair look healthy and become strong.

Scalp Massages need to be done with hair nutritious oil or other hair foods like Goose berry, Henna, etc., that along with the gentle movements of massages can provide the required nutrients needed by hair to prevent or reduce hair loss. Massages alone are not sufficient to provide the necessary amount of nutrients needed, however, along with these nutritional supplements they become sufficient to prevent or reduce further loss of hair and damage.

Following is the list containing some special and effective nutritious hair foods that can be used for scalp massages:

Oils: Ayurveda mentions three oils that are highly beneficial for thinning hair problems. These three oils are:

Almond oil: almond oil is a rich source of Vitamin E. that promotes skin and hair health. Massage with almond oil is not only good for hair, but it is also good for our brain. It is known in India for improving memory, skin and skin's complexion and texture. Massage with this oil once or twice a week followed by steam after one hour.

Coconut Oil: this oil helps in revitalizing the hair by providing necessary nutrients and makes them shiny and healthy. It not only prevents hair fall, but it also treats dandruff, another cause of hair loss, and also prevents greying of hair. Massage twice in a week with coconut oil followed by steam immediately.

Sesame Oil: This oil is known for nourishing and strengthening the hair roots, which not only promotes hair growth but also makes hair silky and black. Massage once in a week with this oil, followed by steam after an hour.

Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe Vera is a plant that has a special place in all Ayurvedic and medical books. It is not only useful in preventing baldness, but is also effective in treating diabetes, hyper tension, skin diseases and infections, etc. Massage with Aloe Vera gel stimulates the hair follicles to promote new or re-growth of hair. Massage twice or thrice in a week.

Growing up, a sense of wonder at nature and a love for animals was instilled in us. A normal weekend was spent at Elachee Nature Center in Oakwood, GA learning about the climate that controlled Georgia's agriculture and natural resources. This normally went into detail about animals as well as the plants that naturally supported such wildlife. This inbred fascination with nature was also reflected in our home. My brother, sister, and I all had numerous books on wild animals and we loved to watch The Discovery Channel. My mom brought it on herself that we tended to bring home and love animals. By the time I had moved out, my family had two birds, two turtles, numerous white mice and hamsters, and one very rowdy little dog. After I moved out, I collected a couple of cats and a couple of very rowdy large dogs.

The most recent addition to the family is Hannah, the dwarf hamster. My brother, Bob, brought her home in late 2003 and my mom quickly became enamored with her. Mom has been known to get Hannah out of her cage in the middle of the night to play and feed her almonds in the kitchen while she gets ready for work.

Early in 2005, Hannah began to develop bald spots under her chin and across her body. My mom would often talk about how it worried her during our weekly conversations, but I hadn't realized how far spread it was until I woke Hannah up one Sunday afternoon. She climbed up against the walls of her plexiglass hamster-haven and I realized that she had lost most of the hair on her stomach in a patch that stretched from her right arm to her right leg. Her little pink skin showed through clear as day, and I got her out for a closer look. She didn't exhibit any bumps or discomfort as I probed her, although she was a little irritated that I was bringing her out without the offer of a tasty treat. I gave her a hamster treat and set her back down in her little home.

Then, I decided it was time for an internet search. Little Hannah needed some help, and I didn't want to pay a vet to tell me she was just getting old. I researched 'hamster hair loss' and found that it is a fairly common problem, especially in older hamsters. The search told me that the most common reasons were age, protein deficiency, vitamin deficiency, hair getting caught in the hamster-wheel, mites, and allergic reactions to the bedding. It also let me know how to check her for mites. Mites cause a red or black pattern of bumps on the skin and they normally nest in the hamster's hair and bedding. I checked her and realized that her skin was clear, smooth, and free from little insects.

I knew Hannah was aging and getting to where this was a natural instance for her species; however, I couldn't just tell my mom to prepare for a little hamster funeral. I focused on the deficiencies and found that most pet stores sell a water-soluble vitamin supplement for hamsters. You simply dissolve a pill in the hamster's water supply, and the hamster ingests it without even knowing.

I called my mom and let her know what my research had concluded and she said that she had found basically the same thing in her own search. She said she was going to get a supplement and see how Hannah responded.

After a couple of weeks, Mom reported that Hannah had regained a new love for life and was even making her wheel "go squeaky, squeaky in the middle of the night." She mentioned that the hair had not started to grow back but had stopped falling out. She also noted that Hannah seemed to really like her new supplemented water and she had to refill her little dispenser more often.

Before, whenever I had browsed the pet store the animal multivitamins struck me as silliness for profit: a plan to play off our love for our pets to line the company's pockets. Now that I have seen it in action, I realize how close we are to our little animal neighbors in how our bodies need the substance of healthiness. In animals and in humans, our food comes pre-processed and our exercise is limited by our lifestyle. As people, our doctors, magazines, TV programs on healthy living and even our mothers tell us to take our daily multivitamin to keep us young, fit, and healthy because our food simply does not satisfy the nutritional needs of our bodies. As hamsters, they only have the attention of their owners to see to it that they get what their little bodies need to survive - and there aren't any TV commercials on the benefits of hamster vitamins. Now the victim of a successful experiment, it seems that Hannah now has a greater appreciation for her nutritional supplement as well.

You'd be surprised what's in your kitchen cupboards that can increase the growth rate of your hair. In particular, tea (with caffeine) is not only great for drinking, but it's also been linked in research to contribute to hair growth. How is this possible? Well, the caffeine stimulates the hair follicles as well as block DHT (hormone responsible for hair loss and male pattern baldness). It also slows down the rate of hair fall as well as reduces shedding.

Other benefits include increase thickness, produces hair that is so lush and cotton soft.

Tea Rinse Recipes

Recipe to use after taking out a sew-in weave or braids:

4 cups of hot water, swish the tea bag around until the water turns color, let it sit and cool. Put on hair and let it sit for a few minutes and comb through hair. Results - easy detangling, less breakage, and less shedding.

Recipe for hair loss - mix black tea with a bit of lemon juice, apply to hair, massage into scalp, and follow up by shampooing.

Use tea as a final rinse after your weekly shampoo and conditioning regimen

Holistic recipe books recommend nettle tea as a rinse for your strands. Nettle tea although it doesn't have caffeine it is said to promote hair growth and strengthens your tresses. This is due to it's stimulating properties. Steep tea bags or put loose herbs in a pot of hot water, let it sit for more than two minutes, then infuse with essential oils such as peppermint and rosemary. Nettle can also be mixed with aloe vera and horsetail to create a homemade hair strengthener.

Nettle tea tonic for soft and glossy hair - nettles, quart of water, allow water to begin to simmer, add one handful of nettles, allow to the nettles to simmer in the water for at least 2 hours. Once mixture has cooled, strain, and put in a bottle. Use a scalp treatment and apply every other night. Be sure to make a fresh batch every three days or so as this does not have a long shelf life.

Recipe for Fine Hair - shampoo hair (make sure the hair and scalp are clean), apply a protein treatment, rinse with something that is moisturizing, gently squeeze excess water from hair, pour tea rinse on hair making sure to get your scalp, apply moisturizing conditioner, deep condition for 25-30 minutes, rinse the tea/conditioner combo out of hair, apply your leave-in and style as normal (roller set or another protective style)

Tips

If used more than once per week, you may experience dryness, be sure to rinse out the tea and always incorporate moisture into your regimen.

May experience better results using black or nettle tea

1. The first place to start always is to check with your doctor, or a naturopath - they can do blood tests to see exactly what is going on, it could be mineral deficiencies, dietary, or hormonal issues there maybe other underlying reasons so it's important to know what it is so you can apply the right solution;

2. Consider improving your diet - again tests can show where deficiencies are, consider either seeing a nutritionist, or removing the junk food and replacing with more nutrient dense food:

e.g. leafy green veg, lean meats, whole grains and dried fruit. Drink eight to ten glasses of water per day but don't go mad as you can actually drink too much water. Limit your intake of refined carbohydrates, reduce saturated fats, add more essential fatty acids e.g. omega, 3, 6,9 hemp seed oil is a good option and you can find these in most supermarkets or health food shops. Significantly reduce tea, coffee, sugar, salt, and fizzy drinks in your diet and these put an additional load on your system.

3. Take another look at how you manage your time and priorities - can you remove or say no to things that are adding additional stress?

4. Make sure you are getting enough rest, this is the time the body uses to repair itself and your hair is part of that process. When the body is under additional pressure hair and nails often suffer as the body diverts resources to other more important activities of the body leaving less for these areas.

5. Try an Indian Head massage - sometimes if we are under a lot of stress the capillaries to the scalp become smaller reducing blood flow, by having a massage it helps to loosen up the scalp and encourages blood flow.

6. Have you got a really good haircut that improves the style and thickness of your hair? A good haircut can improve the look and thickness of your hair so talk to your hairdresser and explain what you need rather than sticking to your usual style. This is a cheap an inexpensive easy solution and you just might like the change.

7. Consider the following - Increase your level of B vitamins (take a complex) as these get used up quickly during stressful times and help to retain hair colour too! B6 is especially helpful for women taking the pill which can affect hair loss - it's important to try to take a complex otherwise it can cause other deficiencies.

8. Increasing your Zinc essential for hair growth 30mg daily is often recommended.

9. Consider looking at herbs that balance your hormones naturally some herbs that help are: dong quai, black cohosh, sage, taking the herb vitex agnus castus helps to reduce testosterone levels which does affect hair loss and growth of hair in other places (e.g. more facial hair) - speak to a qualified herbalist if you choose this root as herbs have powerful effects on the body.

10. Try a hair booster here is an example:

Use Apple cider vinegar (try to pick an organic one). It's a popular hair and scalp booster because it is rich in alpha hydroxy acids, which assist with ex-foliation, have antibiotic properties, and regulate the PH of the scalp. Patricia Bragg from her book Apple Cider Vinegar: Miracle Health System recommends the following:

1. Use 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (mixed with a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper)
2. Apply to thinning areas 1hr before shampooing - shampoo as normal.
3. Before going to bed mix a royal jelly capsule with 1tsp of apple cider vinegar apply on thinning area and leave overnight, wash out in the morning.

Let me know what you think and how you get on and remember that it is always best to speak to a professional if you are embarking on any dramatic dietary changes.

I specialise in working with successful professional and business women over 35 who want to look and feel beautiful from the inside out, and I do this by helping women get in contact with their own authentic beauty using holistic methods. Hair is one of the crucial features in human beings which explicitly manifest several aspects of their health and state of well being. In this respect men and women complain alike of loosing their hair, its bounce, or texture. Hair loss and grey hair are the major hair problem faced universally across the globe barring a few countries. Glossy and well textured hair are the well understood indicators of youthfulness, fertility and beauty. As we grow older which means even through in ones 20s and with the world becoming increasingly competent, we often get wrangled in the whirl wind of day to day worldly affairs. Amidst this confusion people tend to forget themselves and the overburdened chaos multiplies several folds and takes toll on ones health.

Hair fall and hair loss are only the manifestations of the deeper undercurrents which are definitely not functioning in an orderly fashion. The food which we take is either nutritionally deficient or we are unable to absorb with the fall in metabolism. Application of chemical cosmetics and toiletries only add to the problem after providing temporary relief.

A few tips will go miles in resolving the problem

o Use of right cooking medium and right oil for body application. Cold pressed Sesame oil is rich in copper, calcium and iron. Copper is an essential micro-nutrient crucial to the synthesis of melanin responsible for imparting color to the hair. Another significant fact associated with this oil is that it has capability to be absorbed into the deepest layers of the skin, unlike many oils, conditioners and moisturizers which stay on the surface layers stirring no impact in the deeper skin physiology.

o Sesame oil is also capable of absorbing pollutants and other impurities present on the surface of the skin and bringing into the blood supply which then eliminates it with the natural excretory mechanisms. Therefore sesame oil can be used as effectual cooking medium as well as right hair oil and why not also as skin oil applied soon after the bath over the moist skin.

o Even if graying is genetic, the impact of genes is triggered due to the absence of certain nutrients or presence of certain unwanted stuff in diet and in the environment. You can block the action of harmful genes by substituting your so called wrong life style not liked by the body by a more favorable one.

o Eat at least three servings of cold water fatty fish as salmon, tout, mackerel, sardines, and herring in a week. These fish are loaded with plenty of goodies of beneficial proteins and omega 3 fatty acids. The latter are essential for the well functioning of the body and cannot be synthesized inside the human body and have to be supplemented from external sources as eating fatty cold water fish or in taking cod liver oil capsules.

o Beat two eggs in a bowl and add sesame oil or olive oil to it and message your hair with this. Keep it for two hours before washing with mild shampoo.

o Else mix 2 large spoons of amla powder, a tea spoon of black pepper in a bowl of curd. Beat well and message in the hair roots before rinsing it off.

o Besides other things keep your diet rich in calcium, proteins and Vitamin B12. This means eating foods rich in yogurt, fish, eggs and meat.

o Hair loss and grey is also due to their inability of the hair follicles to beget oxygen and adequate nutrition from the blood stream. The inner walls of the blood vessels become narrow due to accumulation of plaque due to diets rich in saturated fats. Chewing 3-4 pods of raw garlic regularly with out fail and a lot of green veggies and colored fruits go a long way in keeping the triglyceride levels in blood in check.

o Drinking pomegranate juice enhances the flow of blood in vessels. Any fruit juice that you drink ensure it is fresh and unstrained and without any additions.

o Green tea is rich in isoflavnoids. Bring water to boil and add to green tea leaves. Close the flame and place a lid lover the tea and let it tea brew for at least 2 minutes. Pour it in a cup to which a few drops of lemon juice and sugar is added. Stir well. This is known to lower the dehydrotestosterone popularly referred to as DHT in the blood stream. DHT is known to be the culprit behind balding.

o Many a times the loss of hair and graying is attributed to fungus in the hair that eats through the melanocytes and the hair follicles. Ensure keeping hair dandruff/fungus free. For this add neem oil to sesame oil or olive oil
with a few drops of lemon juice. Message well in the hair regularly before every wash.

o Last but not the least 8 hour good night sleep, physical activity, sun shine, fresh air, lots of water and socializing go a long way to keep the overall health of any individual in good condition. And throw your worries in the dust bin. Repeat this to your self when ever you are under stress. Say 'throw your worries in the dust bin'.

It might seem strange, but the foods that you eat can help keep your skin, hair and nails looking great and healthy. Protein is vital to every cell and function in the body. Your body uses protein to make your skin by replenishing skin cells as they die and slough off. Without enough protein in your system, your nails can become brittle and break off. Protein is also important as the body works to heal the effects of too much sun exposure. (Protein should be increased whenever you are healing from trauma, illness or burns. However, make sure that you are not adding or changing the amounts of protein in your diet without discussing it with your doctor or your nutritionist).

The Skin

Your skin is the largest organ of the body and skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in humans. There are about a million new cases of skin cancer found every year in the United States. Ninety percent of these cases are cured, however 50,000 may recur (Source: Ammer 2005). There are three kinds of skin cancer: squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma, the most dangerous.

Basal cell carcinoma accounts for about 75% of skin cancers and usually appears as a shiny, pearly gray nodule. Symptoms include:

- an open, oozing or bleeding sore that persists for longer than three weeks
- a red and irritated spot often found on the chest, shoulders, arm or legs that can be itchy or crusty and often persists
- a shiny bump, pearly or translucent, which might be pink, red or white in light skinned people or tan, brown or black in dark skinned people
- a pink growth with raised rolled border and a crusted center
- a scar-like, waxy area which has poorly defined borders where the skin is yellow or white and often appears shiny and taut.

Squamous cell carcinoma starts as a scaly and slightly reddened lesion with a crusty surface but may take on a more nodular, almost warty appearance.

Melanoma is the most serious of the skin cancer types and makes up about 5% of all cases.

The Need for Early Detection - The best chance for a cure of skin cancer is early detection, but it is even more important to prevent skin cancer instead of having to try to treat it. Everyone should be using sun screen protection especially in the peak hours between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm during the summer months.

The sun's rays can be divided into three categories of radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. Of these, UVC poses the least problem from sunlight- its radiation is completely absorbed by the ozone layer. You can be affected by this light, but only from artificial sources. UVB radiation is what causes sunburns and affects the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis). You get the majority of your UVB radiation per year during the summer months. UVA is the main danger to your skin, penetrating deeper into the skin and working harder to destroy it.

The skin damage that is done by UVA and UVB includes wrinkles, lowered immunity, aging skin and skin cancers.

Tips for good skin care:

- Wash your face with mild products that are meant for your skin type whether it is normal, oily or combination. There is no need for multi-step or harsh chemicals. Avoid bar soaps, especially on your face because they are too drying.
- Hot water is drying to the skin especially in the winter months. Stick to lukewarm showers and avoid long soaks in the tub.
- Add lotion to your routine, slathering it on while you are still wet from your shower so the moisture really soaks in.
- Always check your skin carefully for any signs of changes that could indicate skin cancer.
- Visit a dermatologist for an assessment.
- Never pick at or squeeze your skin.

The Nails

Some people notice every single thing about their nails. Others only notice their nails when they are causing problems. Protein and protein-rich foods are top sources for the nutrient biotin, which is part of the B complex. These food sources include egg yolks, soybean flour, cereals and yeast. Foods with lesser amounts include cauliflower, lentils, milk and peanut butter.

While there are a number of products on the market that are supposed to increase the strength and length of the nails, your own nutrition is more important than these products whether they work or not. There are other tips for keeping your nails at their healthiest best:

- Remove nail polish carefully
- There is no truth to the myth that you have to let your nails breathe every now and then.
- File your nails so that they are smooth and even.

The Hair

Hair loss can be a genetic thing, however there are also other conditions that can cause thinning hair. Crash dieting where you lose 20 pounds or more in a short period of time can be a problem as well. If you lose more than a pound per week, you increase the risk of losing the hair on top of your head. Like fingernails, hair benefits from increased intake of biotin. Steer clear of the shampoos and other products that claim to re-grow or strengthen the hair- they typically do not work.

Tips for healthy hair:

- Use shampoos that are the best for your hair type (oily, normal, dry, curly, etc.)
- You do not have to wash every day- every other day is perfectly fine unless you are sweating a lot.
- Do not brush your hair while it is wet and at its weakest-use a wide tooth comb instead.

Nutritional Needs

A healthy diet is important not only for good health but to keep you looking good on the outside as well. Your hair, skin and nails will suffer if you are not getting the right level of macro and micronutrients. You should get enough protein, carbohydrates and fats to keep your entire system running properly. If you need to lose weight, aim for a weight loss of no more than one pound per week which is healthier and safer for the body and more achievable over the long run.

Carbohydrates - Complex carbohydrates should make up around 50% of the overall daily calories. Whole grains, vegetables and some fruits will keep your blood sugar levels even and will keep you full for longer. Avoid simple carbs such as white sugar and white flour products as much as possible.

Fats - Your intake of fats should be 15-20% of the daily calories and should be of the healthy variety: monounsaturated and Omega 3's are the goal here. Olive oil is one of the best of the fats that should be included in a healthy diet.

Proteins - Protein should make up 30-35% of the daily calories and can be either animal or plant based. Animal proteins should be as low fat as possible; try to limit the amount of red meat as much as possible. Turkey, chicken and fatty fishes are good protein sources. Protein supplements are also good to consider as well. Profect, is a liquid protein supplement shot from Protica, is small enough to carry around wherever you go and takes only seconds to consume. There are 25 grams of protein per serving and one hundred calories in this nutritional supplement.
