A fatty liver grows due to a variety of factors. Obesity, pregnancy, too much intake of alcohol, and poor eating habits are just some of them. One of the liver's functions is to break down the fats that are brought in from the stomach.

However, problems occur when too much fat than it can break down reaches the liver. These fats will just build up and infiltrate the liver cells. Anything that the body takes in can either worsen or lessen the damage in the liver. To help deal with the situation, fatty liver diet guide should be made and followed.

Since fatty liver can't be cured but possible to reverse, a healthy diet would be a great help. Everything that the body consumes will pass through the liver. So if the body takes in foods that are not good for the health, it means that the body especially the liver is in danger of being damaged.

Eating fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamins and minerals preferably manganese, selenium, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12 would do well for they can help in the development, metabolism and growth as well as medium in the production of energy from carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Diabetes can develop fatty liver as well because if the blood sugar level is high it also means that there is an increase in the cholesterol level. So the sufferer should avoid drinking sweetened drinks and foods like ice cream, sodas, and jams. Instead have fresh fruits as part of your diet to satisfy your sweet tooth. And stop consuming sodas instead, drink a lot of water to help you eliminate the toxins that has been in your body.

Do not include foods like dairy products, butter, processed meats, avocados, cakes, cookies, turkey, egg yolks and chicken for they are high in saturated fats. The body still needs to comply with the fat intake daily requirement so it is recommended to cook vegetables and chicken using olive oil.

Foods that are rich in fiber like non-starchy vegetables, whole grains for instance barley, red, purple or brown rice, oats, spelt, flaxseed, rye, amaranth and fruits are good for the fatty liver. However, some starchy vegetables like beets, carrots, peas and corn needs to be taken in moderately. Potatoes, parsnips and white rice are not to be included in this diet because they have high GI.

This fatty liver diet guide should be followed by anyone suffering from such disease in order to not worsen the damage done to the organ. This diet should go with daily exercise and complete abandonment of alcohol intake for a better health.

In her book, "Fatty Liver Diet Guide", veteran liver nurse, Dorothy Spencer, states, "There is in fact little difference between the regular diet between healthy people and fatty liver patients. The main point is to reduce the fat content and encourage the body to fully utilize the calories for energy so that there will be no excess storage of fat and carbohydrates." She goes on to stress the importance of regulation, balance, and incorporating all food groups through a highly nutritional diet.

The best diet plan for reducing a fatty liver will vary from patient to patient. When it comes to fatty liver disease (FLD), there are many factors at play, and the underlying causes of the problem must be identified before proper nutritional advice can be given.

FLD is generally broken down into two types: alcoholic (AFL) and non-alcoholic (NAFLD). Alcoholic fatty liver disease has one primary cause: the excessive consumption of alcohol.

The ethanol found in alcoholic beverages contributes to excessive fat accumulation in the liver because it blocks the oxidation of fatty acids in the liver, and it inhibits the release of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) in the bloodstream which are responsible for moving fatty acids out of the liver. When more fat moves into the liver than out of it, fat accumulation and storage occurs. AFL can generally be reversed by removing alcohol from the diet.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a more complex condition. NAFLD can be caused by a wide variety of things which include, but are not limited to, a high-fat diet, obesity, type 2 diabetes (diabetes milletus), hyperinsulinemia, and metabolic disorders. Dietary changes and weight loss are the best ways to combat and reverse NAFLD.

Here are some of the do's and don'ts when making changes that incorporate a fatty liver diet plan aimed at reducing excess fat in the liver into your lifestyle.

Do eat vitamin and mineral rich foods, particularly those high in B-complex vitamins, folate (folic acid), manganese, selenium, and sulfur
Do follow a balanced diet and avoid excessive eating
Don't eat high-fat foods, particularly those high in saturated fats
Don't consume alcohol and/or high sugar drinks like energy drinks and soda
Do exercise regularly to lose weight gradually rather than trying for a "lose it all at once" solution
Don't eat large amounts of dark meats or fried foods
Do eat lean white meats such as chicken or turkey
Do eat vegetables daily, particularly greens and leaves
Do eat fruits daily, particular citrus fruits high in vitamin C
Do eat complex carbohydrates such as those found in brown rice and whole grains
Don't eat simple carbohydrates such as those found in candy and desserts
Do eat foods high in fiber

Healthy fatty liver diet recipes do exist and the good news is you'll have plenty of variety to keep your taste buds from getting bored. The good thing about a diet plan for fatty liver is that it isn't much different from a highly nutritious, healthy diet for the average person.

In most cases, you won't have to completely give up the foods you love. You'll just have to be more conscious about how much you're eating, paying special attention to the amount of fat you're consuming. More fat in your diet leads to more fat congestion in your liver. What you want is a nutritious, vitamin-rich and balanced diet where nothing is eaten in excess.

In her ebook, "The Fatty Liver Diet Guide", veteran liver nurse, Dorothy Spencer, offers up over 30 fatty liver friendly diet recipes. These range from simple appetizers like salmon spread to main courses such as Caribbean shrimp 'n peas. Even mouth-watering dessert recipes are included. Dorothy states, "The goal of this cookbook section is not to present you with gourmet dishes, but with healthful meals that fit within the dietary needs of a fatty liver patient."

So as you can see, there are plenty of fantastic foods you can enjoy while you work on reducing fat in your liver. However, as you create your daily meals, there are some important considerations you should keep in mind in regards to the foods you eat.

Your main goal will be to reduce excess fat consumption. Most medical professionals agree fat should make up no more than 30% of your overall daily caloric intake. This means if you're consuming 1500 calories per day, then no more than 450 of those calories should come from fat.

9 calories is equivalent to 1 gram of fat, so to put it in easier to measure terms, you shouldn't consume more than 50 grams of fat for a 1500 calorie diet. A 1200 to 1500 calorie diet will help you lose weight while reducing fat in the liver.

Here are some additional tips to keep in mind:

Go for brown rice and whole grains instead of white rice or white bread.
Opt for pasta instead of egg noodles.
If you don't want to give up sweets, then opt for pies over cakes. Try to avoid things like doughnuts, cookies, and other high-fat sweets.
Focus on foods high in complex carbohydrates and avoid foods rich in simple carbohydrates like candy.
Substitute 2% and whole milk with 1% or skim milk.
Go for saturated fats over unsaturated fats, but consume all fats sparingly.
Avoid high fat salad dressings and other condiments. Seek out low-fat and non-fat alternatives.
Choose lean white meats (chicken, turkey, fish) over dark meats (pork, beef). Cut all excess fat off meats before cooking or eating and try to avoid meats from high fat areas such as ribs and wings.
Include foods high in fiber and eat plenty of vegetables and fruits.
Avoid alcohol consumption and drink soda, high sugar fruit juices, and energy drinks sparingly.

Implementing the right fatty liver diet plan early on can help you enjoy many more years of symptom free living. Although fatty liver disease (FLD) is often an asymptomatic disease in its early stages, it shouldn't be taken lightly.

FLD can be a deadly killer when simple steatosis goes unchecked and worsens to become non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cirrhosis, liver cancer, or complete liver failure. Diet and exercise will be your best allies against this potentially deadly condition.

Fatty liver is closely tied to obesity and if you suffer from FLD, chances are you also struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Perhaps you just need to shed a few pounds or maybe you need to lose hundreds. Regardless, watching your weight and working on a gradual reduction of 1-2lbs per week will go a long way toward reducing fat in your liver.

In her ebook, "Fatty Liver Diet Guide", veteran liver nurse, Dorothy Spencer states, "Since losing weight is the primary concern in treating fatty liver, following a 1200 calorie diet is an excellent way to shed excess body fat." Slow, gradual weight loss is recommended over drastic weight loss measures such as gastric bypass surgery. This prevents the body from going into starvation mode (from the sudden loss of fat) and producing fatty acids that can further congest the liver.

Following Dorothy Spencer's recommendations, a 1200 calorie diet should be comprised of the following:

6 ounces of protein from lean meats and vegetables
5 servings from a starch source such as potatoes or whole-grain bread
4 or more servings of vegetables
3 servings of fresh fruit (citrus fruits are particularly good as they are rich in vitamin C which is gaining popularity as a fatty liver treatment)
3 servings of fat (unsaturated fats are favored over saturated fats, but all fat should be consumed sparingly)
2 servings of low-fat dairy such as cottage cheese or skim milk

If you don't want FLD to worsen, it's important to get started early eating the right foods that help in reducing fatty liver problems. Prevention is the only "cure". Alcohol consumption should be avoided since ethanol blocks the oxidation of fatty acids in the liver and limits the release of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) which are responsible for moving fatty acids out of the liver.

Next, formulate the best diet plan for reducing a fatty liver

In her e-book, the "Fatty Liver Diet Guide", veteran liver nurse, Dorothy Spencer, tells us:

"Fatty Liver is not life threatening, but it has a high tendency to advance into more dangerous liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, cancer of the liver and the worst-case condition which is hepatic necrosis."

She goes on to emphasize the importance of regulating your food intake with a highly nutritious diet focused on weight loss.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a complex health problem that may worsen by a high-fat or high-carbohydrate diet, obesity, type 2 diabetes (diabetes milletus), insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and metabolic disorders.

By far, the most important things to consider for reversing fatty liver are nutritional changes and weight loss. The best diet plan for getting rid of a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) will focus on giving you correct nutritional guidance and helpful advice that is easy to follow.

Here are some "Do's and Don'ts" to think about when planning your fatty liver diet. These tips are aimed at bringing down excess fat in your liver and incorporating these changes into your daily diet and lifestyle:

Do eat vitamin particularly foods that are high in vitamin C, vitamin E, and B-complex vitamins.
Do eat mineral rich foods, especially foods that are high folic acid (folic acid), manganese, and selenium.
Do avoid compulsive eating by sticking to a balanced diet.
Do eat small meals throughout the day, rather than only a couple of big meals.
Don't eat meals late in the evening, eat more of your meals earlier in the day.
Don't eat high-fat foods, especially saturated fats.
Don't consume too much alcoholic beverages or high sugar beverages like energy drinks and soft drink.
Do workout on a regular basis to lose weight slowly, inch by inch.
Don't try "lose it all at once" weight-loss methods as these can be harsh on your liver.
Don't eat red meat, ham, pork or fried foods.
Do eat lean white meats, including chicken, turkey and fish.
Do eat extra servings of veggies every day, especially fresh vegetables and leafy vegetables.
Don't eat simple carbohydrates, which include white refined sugar, candy and sugary desserts.
Do eat fresh fruits every day, in particular citrus fruits and lemons.
Do eat complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, beans, and whole grain cereals.
Do eat foods that are high in fiber such as oats, bran cereals, and whole wheat breads.

Next, now is the time to formulate your plan to get rid of fatty liver.

Fatty liver disease is a range of conditions where there is a build-up of fat in the liver cells. The liver cells normally contain some fat and related fatty chemicals (triglycerides, fatty acids, etc). Excess fat is normally passed out of liver cells, into the bloodstream, and then taken up and stored in fat cells throughout the body

Fatty Liver is caused by;

1. Excessive drinking of alcohol-

Most adults get their fatty livers through this case, 80% of the teenagers and early adults got a dose of alcohol and when they grow older diseases like this occurs.

2. Obesity -

Most people with simple fatty liver who do not drink excess alcohol are obese. The factors that determine who will develop fatty liver are not known. Some mildly overweight people develop fatty liver while some who are severely obese do not.

3. Diabetes -

Eating too much junk foods, sweets or simple fat foods, which diabetics often crave of are one causes of a fatty liver. Although eating fatty foods are not proven alone to be the source of having fatty livers, but because of diabetes, obesity may occur which can lead to excess fat on your cells and since excess fat can be transferred and build up to the liver, this will be one of the cause.

There is usually no symptoms caused by the fatty liver itself. (The cause of the fatty liver such as alcohol excess, diabetes, obesity, etc., may cause other symptoms.) The liver may enlarge and cause mild pain over the liver area. A doctor may feel an enlarged liver when examining the abdomen and do ultra sounds.

How do you lose your fatty liver?

There are 3 ways to diagnose yourself in order to prevent in the future and to cure your fatty liver;

1. If it is caused by excessive alcohol, don't drink -

When the cause of your fatty liver is by excessive drinking of alcohol, it will be a good time for you to stop drinking, or if you have a hard time doing it, at least start of by drinking less until you do not drink anymore. It is also advised that if you are an alcoholic you see a doctor or go to rehab, there are a lot of programs given for this. This is a must because alcohol drinkers might bring the disease to another level called Cirrhosis.

2.If caused by obesity, lose that weight -

When it is caused by obesity, it is advised that diet programs and losing weight must be done. Avoid fatty foods and go to a low fat diet, this should be done so that there will be no complications made in the future.

3. If diabetes , have a strict diet -

Low fat diet is a must and monitor your diabetes, ask a nutritionist if you must. Diabetes can lead to different things, you must be cautious and always look after your health.

Vitamins for a fatty liver disease diet have been a topic of debate when it comes to the best way to reduce fat in your liver. Some vitamins and minerals are great for the liver in certain quantities, but can be extremely harmful in excess. Others can be beneficial and liver friendly, but they can harm other areas of the body. So which vitamins, minerals, and supplements, if any, should be taken along with a fatty liver diet?

Most experts agree certain vitamins and minerals are liver friendly and help to improve liver function. In her ebook, "Fatty Liver Diet Guide", veteran liver nurse, Dorothy Spencer, points out 6 such vitamins and minerals. These are:

Folate (folic acid) which improves liver function and can be found in foods like leafy vegetables and citrus fruits.
Vitamin B complexes (including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, and cobalamine) which are involved in protein metabolism.
Vitamin K which aids in synthesizing prothrombin.
Manganese and selenium which help activate and/or speed up some of the enzymes needed for both fat and carbohydrate metabolism.
Sulfur which aids in the formation of B vitamins.
Vitamin C and vitamin E which are showing potential as fatty liver treatments due to their antioxidant capabilities which can slow hepatic cellular deterioration.

The important thing to remember when using vitamins and minerals as part of a diet for reducing FLD is that excessive consumption can be harmful not only to the liver, but also to other areas of the body. For example, vitamin K can cause liver damage in large amounts and excessive niacin (vitamin B3) can encourage the liver to digest more fat which adds to the problem for fatty liver patients.

Biotin should be avoided as it can increase the production of fatty acids. Likewise, too many amino acids can lead to other conditions, sometimes as severe as brain damage. It is not recommended to take supplements of vitamins A and vitamin D since these are often stored in fat deposits and, therefore, are in ample supply in a fat congested liver.

Most vitamins and minerals can be obtained in ample quantities through a diet plan consisting of specific fatty liver diet recipes aimed at improving liver function.

If you were recently diagnosed with NAFLD and looking for a good, easy to stick to a diet plan, as you might know, they are hard to come by. There are very few diets that cater to the proper nutritional content that is required to combat NAFLD. It is very important to understand that you must follow a doctor's advice and guidance while learning to combat the disease, and change your self into a healthier lifestyle.

The ideal diet plan for fatty liver should be comprised of low calorie, low in saturated fat count, high fiber content and no more than 30% calorie value should come from any fat in the diet. Exercise should be light, and it is recommended to reduce weight loss slowly, losing no more than one pound a week. Losing weight rapidly while diagnosed with Liver disease can actually worsen the liver, and hasten it to different stages such as cirrhosis. With a regulated safe and natural treatment plan, NAFLD can be reversed and eliminated.

Armed with the diet guidelines for a diet, there are some treatment options available on the market today, that offer all-natural and herbal healing. One such diet is 'The Fatty Liver Solution' which was developed by a naturopathic practitioner and has been proven to heal fatty liver patients. Another treatment plan that has just surfaced over the past few month is 'Fatty Liver Diet Guide' which educates patients towards a healthier lifestyle, also proven to reverse the disease. This guide was developed by a veteran nurse who has been treating liver patients for many years.
